For a 1996 E36 328i, can anyone tell me how long the original warranty period would have been when it was originally purchased?

Would have guessed the usual 3 year/36k miles, but that's just a guess.

Anyone know for sure?

Many thanks,

TT

Think it was 3 years / 60K miles whichever came sooner. What's the relevance now as this car is surely out of warranty.

Thanks.

Reason is, had a new fuel pump fitted by the dealership just over two years ago which has now failed. They tell me service parts are only warranted for 2 years, however my logic is that, if it's an OEM part fitted by a dealership, it should be equivalent to the original warranty period.

I think that 3 year warranty only applies to a new vehicle. OEM parts fitted to an out-of-warranty car are subject to limited warranty, and it's not the same as for a new car. Still worth pushing the point with the dealer (you never know you might get lucky and catch an inexperienced parts salesman unawares!) but am pretty sure you will get a knock back.
