330d turbo slightly whistling

Chaps, can you help, pher mate is in the middle of the alps. Has done 700miles in 2 days, the turbo whistle suddenly sounds louder and (unsure if connected) he seems to have a slight vibration when changing from 4th to 5th at about 80mph. Any ideas ?

Could altitude be a factor ?

My Masser Ghibli made all sort of whistleing whining noises on a trip through the alps

He might have split a pipe or blown it off, is it at the same revs/load etc? Is it still pulling the same? Is there a lot more soot under load?

It may also be that he's not used to hearing the sound bouncing off the close walls and it's actually not a problem?

Every now now and then I think mine whistles a bit louder/longer, but it's never permanent and it did 27k last year without a problem

mpg figure is rock solid implying (a little) that everything is running fine.

paranoia on my part, or failing that, too much window-down-tunnel-action.

Will
