Need some help making a decision. I thinking of buying an M reg M3 3.0l, Blue, 107000 miles, New insp.1, from a reputable garage for £6.5k. Its slightly overpriced compared to most but will come with a warranty plus im getting a good part ex. price on my Alfa.

My worry is the high mileage and how much will it be worth a couple years down the line at say 130000 miles will I be able to sell it & will it still be reliable.

thanks

I wouldn't think that 107 or 130k would be much diferent, both still over the 100k mark! I would just say make sure you are paying the right price for the right deal, is it really worth the money as there must be plenty of other evos around - I bought a E30 BMW with 90k on the clock, it was in retrospect a reasnable buy, but I had set my heart on it at the time - I didn;t shop around more than I would now. In fairness, it lasted for 4 years and sold it on at 144k, but with an overheating problem

Just check the warranty is worth its salt and preferably one that is underwritten by RAC etc...

£6.5k is too much for 3.0 with that mileage. You can pick them up in good condition with that mileage for around £4k without a warranty and to be honest they're pretty bullet proof.

Mine's done 115k miles and nothing major has gone wrong in the last 60k that I've had it, even with some hard track use.

Check what the warranty covers if you do get it. Suspension is pobably the weakest link on the 3.0s

I agree that is too overpriced, I've just bought a mint condition 3.2 evo on a 98 reg with 75k on the clock for just over £8250. I would say a 100k 3.0 would be worth no more than 5k.

Yes I could probably pick one up for 5k but then being the car that it is it may need a service & various parts changing which could then turn it into a 6k car. I guess the only reason for going for the other one is peace of mind.

On the reliability front, I bought my Evo M3 at 105k just over 2 years ago and its now done 145k and is still 100% reliable and I still redline the car with no worries.

Guess my car isn't worth over 5k though even though its got full history and is newer so I'd be careful you don't overpay just because you know the car.

Too much even from a garage.

As for picking a decent one up for £4k - Dream On! I'm looking for one myself, covered nearly 1400 miles at the weekend, and all I saw were boy racer'd, oil leaking, gasket blown rubbish. None of which were under £5k.

Deffo take someone who knows these cars. I've had one previously which was a lemon and have learnt the hard way what to look for. None of the cars I saw last weekend needed less than another £500 spent on them.

Edited to add: Where are getting it from? I may have looked at it!

Bit too far South for me, where all the good ones seem to be. All the ones I've seen in and North of Birmingham are not worth it.
