wiper problem

Could anyone help with a problem I have with my wippers on my 330d 2000 reg. After using the wippers on a trip to Scotland (3 hours on sensor) the wippers failed nothing from the stalk at all, pulled over and turned ignition off for 15 mins everythings working again but it happend again some 2 hours later again left it for 10-15mins and everything works? (its pretty scary on those mountain roads in the wet) if anyone has any ideas it would be very much appreciated

It's almost definately the wiper relay. About 10 quid from BMW.

Not sure about 3 series but in a 5 it's the big brown one in the electric box under the passenger side cabin filter.
