Just wondered if someone could help me with a small ICE problem. I am trying to run my Ipod through the Satnav by running a cable from the Ipod through to the "AV In" socket in the rear of the car and turning the Satnav to Television. By pressing the TV button in the rear of the car for 5 seconds the TV goes to AV but with a "Mute" sign on. I have had the Ipod working this way but sometimes the music goes and then comes back a minute or two later! I tried this again yesterday whilst on the move and couldn't get any sound at all!! Can anyone shed any light on this, please?
Best bet is to get a Dension iPod kit for BMW:

Integrates better and works well - from what I understand - dont have it myself though, I have DSP and its a nightmare to install....

I Think you are hoping for a simple solution but finding what everyone else has done... you need an icelink. I had to do the same. The icelink is pretty tough to fit properly if you have loads of gadgets i.e. bluetooth, tv, sat nav. Get yourslef an iTrip for the short time you need it.
Dension Icelink must be pretty easy to fit as I managed to do it. It is a little fiddly if you have TV, bluetooth, sat nav, etc, but the instructions are spot on, even if most people mis-read them (as I did).
I think the AV-in thing is mono only, so not sure that is ideal. I could be wrong though.
I'd agree with an FM -type interface as mentioned above if you plan on selling the car, I thought mine was rubbish though (although it works well with the radio in the garage so not wasted).

All you need is an Aux Input kit which costs £33 from your local BMW dealer. I documented some fitting instructions over on X5world and it takes around 30 mins if you are reasonably proficient with a screwdriver.
See www.x5world.com/articles/x5/stereo/9506-fitting-aux-input-cable-x5-nav.html
p.s. you cannot run the Ipod via the AV IN socket on the rear console, you need to directly connect to the AUX IN connection on the back of the Sat Nav unit.
