Good afternoon,

Was just wondering what is the typical cost for a service at a BMW dealer. The car is a 2001 318Ci with 40k on the clock. The car was last serviced at 25k by BMW, however i think it has been serviced at an independent place since then. The car has 600 miles left on the service meter (for an oil service) and I'm just preparing myself for a wallet-bashing.

Also, what are the merits of getting it serviced at a proper BMW garage rather than a independent?

Cheers folks.

Having previously owned a 523i and having the benefit of a excellent garage which works on any vehicle to a very high standard I would'nt hesitate to give the BMW workshop a miss. However, if you are replacing your car soon it may impress the gullible that the last service was BMW.

So if you know of a good indie and your keeping your car longer term save yourself a fistful of cash. IMO.

Well, the car is over 4 years old, so will qualify for "Four+", which is BMWs discount scheme. I think it's 40% labour discount and 15% on parts. Please note the pricing might be wrong - might well be MBs equivalent offering.

Suffice to say, under the 4+ scheme it will be cheaper, and much closer to an indie.
