Bizarre sight this morning, two of the three 3-series E46 sport coupes on my road missing their rear bumpers. Nicked overnight. Is this a new fad? Hard to do without making a huge noise i'd guess? Mine wasn't touched - it's on a 53 reg plate which may or may not have made a difference as the other two were on 54. Weird.

Hoodies used to nick the M-Tech kit from the E36 all the time.

I suppose this is their natural path – then onto the E90.

All will be on egay in a few weeks.

I believe you can replace the bolts used with the anti theft type.

Although they would make a right mess of the car, still trying to get them off! As we know they are not the sharpest bunch.

Alliteratively you can wire the bumpers up to a 240v mains and watch the fcuker fry! (Please do not try this at home)

Hope your is safe from these low lives.

A friend of my sisters had the front end knicked off his 5 series a few years ago....lights, grille and lower "sport" bumper set. Thing was it was in a hotel car park with security cameras - but they didnt pick anything up - yeah right...!

Not a new trend but still daft nonetheless. Not the same thing, but the wife had a CTR and some scrotes kept nicking the Type-R badges off it... at £15 a go for a set its not expensive, but gutted each and every time they did. I mean, for £15 you can buy them from a main dealer and have them perfect with all of the sticky stuff on the back....

Well, they came back. This time for the front bumper off another 3-series sport coupe. A new victim, not the previous two that lost their back bumpers a few weeks back.

So that's 3 out of the 4 on my street. Mine's not yet been touched but it feels like only a matter of time...! Bar setting the car up with 10,000 volts feeding the bumper mounts so i could fry the little shites if they ever tired and unbolt it, there's little I guess anyone can do.

BTW, this is happening in London, N8.

One of our security guards at work has front and rear bumpers taken from his M3, during the day! rolleyes

When the BiB came, they told him that this was the 3rd car done that day in a 1-mile radious.

This was about a year ago, in Basingstoke.

Unreal.

I'd like to know how they remove such a large part of body work without creating enough noise to wake the entire street.

Happened to mine and to a close friend. When getting it sorted and speaking to the body shop I was amazed by how easy it is to remove them. A design fault which BMW will address in the future I hope.

Me too last October/November time.

I put it down to the fact that E36's are relatively cheap now (therefore affordable for chavscum) but still quite expensive to maintain (comparatively).

Rear bumper, skirts, side-trims and (strangely) the mirror GLASS equalled a 2 grand insurance claim mad
