1999 - 323 - Startup High Pitched Hum

Ladies / Gents,

Any assistance is much appreciated.

I have a loan of a 1999 323, 26000 Miles on the clock.

Point is that most times when the car is started, a high pitched "hum" emanates from the dashboard. It lasts for approximately 1 minute and then seems to switch off.

It is a bloody bloody horrible awful noise. It's the shrill tone of it that is so bad. The volume varies.

Anyone have an idea of what it could be?

PS - It does not seem related to aircon. I have switched that off before starting up and the noise was the same.

Could be a fan or servo for the ventilation system - when you turn off the ignition it will settle a few things like the butterfly valves and so on. When you start up it will then bring them into action and shuffle them around according to the settings you have on the dials.....

So it could be a servo or fan as it sorts itself out when you start up.... unfortunately its a dash off job so might be worth trying to see where it is coming from so that you can eliminate what it might be. Some parts of the dash can be removed without taking the whole thing off....
