Bit confused which way to go.(next company bus)
Audi looks better by a mile and better spec plus cheaper, but replacement due next year
BMW boring looks little wheels miles from arches but drives like a dream with rear drive, expensive for what it is.
Need help!!!

How much opportunity will you get to realise the BMW's superior driving dynamics? Is it worth it? I live in Yorkshire and every mile in the BM is a pleasure

Its got to be the Beemer mate. Thjis is the beemer forum and I have beemer so of course no bias!

Bias aside, the bm diesel (i assume you mean 320d) in the e46 was better than the audi (more power, smoother delivery, quieter-although I am sure the boy on the VAG forum will disagree!). The new shape bm 2.0d is supposed to be even better with something like 167bhp.

I never drove the A4 Tdi but have driven a tdi 1.9 golf (130bhp) and found it horrible because there is simply too much torque going to the front wheels.

the a4 interior is probably better (i'm not a fan of the new 3's interior). The 3's exterior can be sorted with the addition of some beefier alloys. if you can get the sport spec I think it looks quite good.

I read in a recent issue of evo that bmw is officially selling the Alpina B3 which is Alpinas take on the 320d with 190+bhp, sport suspension, 19's, subtle bodykit etc. All for just 4k more than the standard 320d and the same as the sport. Any chance of your company stretching that far??

Get yourself a late, heavily specced E46 330d instead of a new 320d or A4 2.5TD, thats what I did, very happy with my choice so far!

Do you want a car with the engine in the wrong place driving the wrong wheels or a car with the engine in the right place driving the right wheeels? It's that simple.

Audi wrong. BMW right.

Sorry Guys
Test drove the BM this morning, thought the vehicle was poor.
Badly speced and forget the performance figs this bus felt slow compared with the Audi in fact i asked the sales guy whether it was a 318d? also no presence on the road.
Whats happening to the designs guys?
The BMW may out handle and be a better "drivers car" but i live on the motorways so in real terms will not see the benefits of the 3.
What irritated me the most and helped me make my decision was the constant slagging of the Audi by the beemer sales people.

that was stupid of the BMW sales people.

Anyway, for the motorway an Audi is perfectly good.

That's because you should have been looking at a 5.

What? Just because I've got one? Perish the thought!

Seriously. The E39 is a fabulous car and wonderful value for money right now

If you spend time on M-ways, a Merc C220Cdi might be worth a look too. Bit old now, but great ride, engine.

Or, how about an Alpina D3? A bit more interesting than the usual choices, fast, and the Alpina suspension is well suited to UK roads/m-ways, much more so than a sport/s-line spec car. The Alpina styling bits/wheels are subtle upgrades, but look great too.

The Alpina D3 is a fantastic diesel....out of budget though i'm afraid. Mercs not my cup of tea bit cloth cap and slippers if you get my drift.
Thanks for the advise though
