noticed that these are starting to drop below £20k now for 525s

could make a very nice motor for the family mobile

anyone got one?

interested to hear about interior/boot space in particular to cope with my 2 young children and dirty labrador

Looks like amazing value... There is a 525 D Touring on autotrader - 54 plate with about 50k miles at around £18k. Cloth upholstery and a manual gearbox and the small alloys, but somehow that doesn't seem to matter as much on a tourer

If I wasn't about to switch to a new job in the next 6 months with less travelling involved, I'd be in there like a shot. Can't see how you can go wrong...

I've had a 525d Touring auto '05 plate for 6 months now. Can't really fault it. The economy is no where near my previous car (E46 320d Touring) but the extra space is impressive (two kids no labrador) The standard of fit and finish is very high. Despite the many critics I don't find the ride too harsh on the 18" run-flat tyres either.

Initially I would have liked a 530d but couldn't justify the extra cost and I've found that the 525d performance is not bad at all. If you can, I'd suggest you try to get Dakota leather, Sat Nav, CD changer as a minimum spec. There are quite a lot about so be fussy. With the '56 reg just coming out there might be a few more trade-in cars around soon too.

Good luck hunting.

I've just started looking for a 530d Touring for her indoors and been comparing old vs new model.

Last of the old model about £19,950, first of the new model about £29,950. (For leather + auto.)

Is the new model worth the £10k premium?

Should I forget the 530d and look at 525d?

personally I'd rather have a new shape 525d than an old shape 530d - personal preference i guess

I'd go for the 525D new shape too. Looks much more modern, and useful improvements all round in terms of dynamics etc. If you wanted the extra power, you could also chip the 525 and almost match a stock 530?

Would you care to be more specific ?

I assume you have driven both.

Is the I-Distract system an issue ?

nope, I've driven neither

the car will be my wife's car predominantly for ferrying kids around and for family use at the weekend

priorities are space, safety and style...all of which I presume a new shape 525 has more of than an old shape 530

(I'm going to struggle to persuade her out of her Land Rover as it is so I think the now dated looking 'old shape' 5 is going to be a bit of a tough sell)

Wasn't he the one asking for opinions?

Would you care to give him one? An opinion, that is.

Sorry, i forget that we're not allowed to like or dislike cars until we've driven them.

I-Drive is no problem. If you can work a computer mouse you can work an I-drive (so that rules my boss out then...) What it does mean is a very clean dash. Very few nobs and buttons around but lots of functions.

I didn't offer an 'opinion' or claim to be doing 'good work'

I offered my preference AND stated the factors on which it is based

Wonderful car as it no doubt is, I find the old shape 5 less appealing than the new shape....and although I've not driven either, I have driven enough cars to know what I like and what I don't

thanks for your 'non opinion' as well

of more interest to me is what's parked next to it

new M3 I presume?

whilst I won't be stretching to one of those, a 335i Coupe could well be my next company car!
