Help!

I am currently looking at buying a Z4 within the next couple of months, however I am struggling a little with the changes to the model since it orginally was launched.

I am looking for a used 3.0 model. Its seems that at some point (this year?) the 3.0 increased from 230bhp to 265bhp which is available now in the 3.0si. Did the uprated engine come in before the 3.0si?

Also there is currently a "3.0si Sport" model - did a Sport model exist previously or was this a Sport option pack on the SE?

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Martin.

AFAIK The updated MK2 was launched earlier this year with a new range of engines. This is where the extra BHP came from in the 3.0si The new model is available in two formats. Se and Sport. The sport gets lowered suspension, bigger alloys and a few other tweeks. No extra power though. The previous model came in 2.0 2.2 2.5 and 3.0 flavours. All of them except the 2.0 came as SE spec I think.

I've had the 2.5 SE for 18 months now and it's great. I've just covered 3000 miles in 4 days around France with no problems. I did sack off the runflats late last year and the ride is much improved IMHO. Have a look at www.Z4UM.COM Great forum for Z4 owners and lots of info on there about the different models, mods and improvements you can make.

Agree with what he said ^^

I have the 2.2 (170 brake), quite good and my pride and joy at the moment. Ultimately will be looking to get the 3.0 (265 brake), but will give it a year or so to allow for the residuals to come down. If you go ahead and purchase one, be sure to replace the run flats at the first given opportunity! With the run flats on the car can feel like it has no suspension. Z4um.com is a great website, has quite a heavy US prescence but does have a lot of UK and European members that really know their stuff regarding the Z4.

Cheers

The engine line up was changed at facelift earlier this year.

The pre-facelift line-up was:-

2.0i 150bhp, 2.2i 170bhp, 2.5i 192bhp, 3.0i 231bhp.

The 2.0i was a straight-four, the rest straight sixes. The 2.5i and 3.0i came out a year or so before the others, so they are more widely available than you might suspect. SE spec was standard on all pre-facelift except the 2.0i (which had it as an option), although it's not the same as the SE on the current models. The 3.0i was also "range-topper" spec with Sports Suspension, leather, metallic paint, electric seats etc. as standard.

The current line-up is:-

2.0i 150bhp, 2.5i 177bhp, 2.5si 218bhp, 3.0i 265bhp.

They've only been out for five minutes, so used bargains may be hard to find. They also messed with the paint and wheel options so be sure to shop around to find the colours you like.
