So my car goes in for a service yesterday.....it's not had one for 2 years and so is about time (the counter still claimed it had another 4,000 miles left b4 needing an oil change but decided it waas time anyway).

£143 later and all seems well until tonight, a whole 15 miles after the service....car is running lumpy, idling anywhere between 500-1,000rpm hunting all the time for no good reason, sounds like it's running on diesel and has developed a high pitched squeak/squeal whilst driving........

Have dumped said car back at dealership now with note to call me or else, and now have to take my nice car to Bristol city centre tomorrow.......hope the car park thieves stay at home tomorrow.....really not happy and expect fully that the garage will deny all knowledge and say it is entirely coincidental that it has suddenly gone wrong (was running perfectly b4hand BTW).......

Rant over!

What car is it, and how come you waited 2 years to service it?

Same thing happened to me with the same symptoms. Turns out they simply hadn't re-connected a hose to the engine properly. Within 2 mins they put it right.

I have only had it 5 months and it did not servicing according to the service indicator and I checked with the dealer who said every 2 years......

It's a 318se.

Spoke to them at length to day and amazingly two completely separate and non related compenents have failed at the same time which has not bearing or relation to the fact that the service was carried out 10 miles b4!!!!

Another £350 of my money gone, then a report to Trading Standards and a letter to the dealer principal I think.

Nobody will ever be able to convince me that they did not break these parts

Be very careful with what they alledge they needed to replace to fix the problem.

It's proposterous to replace 2 unrelated parts to fix a problem.

Let them go ahead and rule out everything by process of elimination, however it will only be the final part fitted that cured the problem that was probably originally required.

Luckily it was a company car, but a mate of mine was given the same run around by our local BMW dealer when his had a fault whilst only weeks old.

Mine is my own car and my spare car at that and was having it serviced in preparation to sell so all the more annoying.

I agree it is almost inconceivable for this to have happened and will be contacting trading standards and the Dealer principal as a result. I can only assume as the basic service was so cheap (£99) they needed to make their money elsewhere......never again will I be using this dealer (well hopefully I won't have the car long enough)

I did say to them yesterday that one part I could have just about believed, two never! They won't budge at the moment and their customer service (in terms of calling me to keep me informed) has been truly shocking........

Make sure you ask for the parts that have been replaced. They have to give them to you by law and it'll at least prove that they have actually changed something rather than just telling you they have.

I have asked for the parts and TBH will know instantly if they;ve done something bcos it will run normally.....I'm hoping that it will vastly improve the performance and economy and that will help justify the cost.........still not happy but very little I can do until i get the car back. Promised at lunchtime, yet again no call and when I called....the answer was 'it's being done!'
