Hello, my dad has splashed out the best part of 30k on a brand new 525d se and is pretty unhappy about the ride quality. He thinks the ride is alot harder than his old 520i se and he says theres a weird pitching feel on the mway at high speed. he also thinks at low speed the steering feel is pretty poor.

I've had a go in it and can see that everythings set up a lot lighter than his old five. However I do think the ride is quite poor for a large saloon. I've also detected this pitching thing at high speed, although not to same extent as my dad.

Has anyone else has similar experiences with the new 5? Any comments would be appreciated.

If the car has runflat tyres, I would look no further. I ran a 535d for a year with run flats, and now run a B5 with normal Michelin PS2s. Despite the B5 running on 19 inch wheels versus 18 inch on the 535d, the ride is far better.

Whilst it may be galling to do so, changing the tyres to non run flats will probably improve the ride markedly.

Kind regards

I have never driven a new 5 so i can only say that the above seems to be well repeated by all the BMW magazines and what other people say.

My 535 has run flats and they give a poor ride therefore they will be replaced with some more suitable as soon as they have worn out.

Thanks for the responses. Having visited another forum site it seems like there is a lot of disatisfaction about run-flat tyres. Makes you wonder why if you are buying new you are not given an opt out option.

Its really soured the experience for my dad, as hes had 4 5 series on the trot and really had a high opinion of BMWs and overall solidity and quality.
