If you were on the Ducati, then it's hardly surprising.
If you were in the Porsche, he wasn't trying. The M5 is much quicker than a 996 C2 on a motorway. It is 2 seconds quicker to 100 mph and 4 seconds quicker to 125. That puts it in a differetn league. Even the Nordschleife times are close to identical.
If you were in the Landy, you are a comedian.

Actually, it would be.
Yeah, I'm with you on that one, ferris. It's only a 748...
I'd back the M5 against a 99X off a rolling start above motorway speeds, on a test track obviously.

I won't ask the exact circumstance...... I've seen an M5 out drag a CBR1000RR at higher speeds. Also scare quick bikes around the 'ring.

I agree that a non-charged Porsche wouldn't even see where the new M5 went.
As far as bikes/cars go, i noticed that the 748 in question is piped and chipped, so it will be very quick from say, 20-120. I had a 748, and they aren't too hot from a stand because of the infamous Ducati clutch and high first gear, but once rolling are pretty quick. I had a 999R for a while which was difficult to drag start, but exceptionally quick once first gear was pulling properly.
I also had a bog standard 2004 R1 Yamaha which would eat a 996 turbo alive to 150 mph (actually did this several times with an anti-bike Porsche owner from Birmingham last year).

For anyone not familiar with bike performance, that R1 would turn times out of the crate for £9,000 that would make many supercar owners weep.
0-60 in 2.9 seconds and 0-100 in 5.6 werre achieved in 2 motorcycle magazines in 2004.
The 0-150 wasn't too shabby at 13.5 either!

Totally agree. Bikes take the piss at lower speeds, but as speeds rise the differential between the two closes, and then swings the other way depending on the two exponents discussed.
Nah.
It isn't always the case that a 'fast' bike will beat a 'fast' car, it also depends on what you term 'beat' and 'fast'.
But yes, the very quickest and most modern superbikes will see off any production road car, up to a certain speed, as was mentioned 2 posts up.
If the Ducati 748 was the bike in question, then some cars will be quicker, even on 0-60 or 0-100.
It ain't as simple as you seem to think.
But it is still a valid point, that very little money, from £3000 used, buys you a 2-wheeler with Enzo-beating acceleration to 160 mph and a near-200 mph top speed, (used Hyabusa, for example).

was in the 911, and for sure he was trying it took me a while to catch.
a std M5 0-100 in 8 seconds? is this right?
also mine "might not be a std 996" just a hint.
in his defense though he did have 4 people in and i had just little old me in mine.
would gladly do it again for cash if anyone wants me to relieve them of say 5 grand?

I have no axe to grind as I have no allegiance to either brand but if a standard, or even slightly breathed on, 996 is as fast as an M5 I'll be amazed. In fact I'll go further, it categorically isn't. The gap gets bigger as the numbers do.
And an M5 is faster than an RS4.
Fast bike vs fast car is always a no brainer, until speeds get a little more interesting or you introduce a corner or 3 into the argument.

What am I supposed to draw from an old video of two lunatics racing the previous model M5 against the previous model RS4 on a crowded motorway? just a shame he aint on here, it would have come from the horses mouth, anyways, here see M5 v RS4

If you want to believe that your "race" on the A1 proves that your 996 is faster than an M5, then carry on in your cosy world. Meanwhile, in the real world, unless your 996 is very special, it is nowhere near as quick as an M5 on a motorway.
Here are the figures for M5 vs 997 that tell you everything you need to know:
"up to 100 km/h, the Carrera holds its own, but thereafter, the M5 shows it its rear lights. The same thing happens with interval acceleration (60-100 km/h 80-120 km/h)"
