Have recently changed my '96 E36 M3 Evo coupe for a '99 ZM Coupe. Am please to bits with the car, it certainly feels quicker, feels much better put together and in my humble opinion is much better looking.

Now I say it feels quicker, does any body have some performance stats for this little monster, the handbook says 0-60 in 5.5, whereas EVO give it 4.3? I know 0-60 isnt important in the real world, it's still nice to know though!

Even though EVO do test the 0-60 times they publish you'd be lucky to get 4.3 I reckon as the driver they used is probably a pro.

I read before that some of the German marques down play the speed on their cars. I don't know why.

I've done 0-60 in 5 seconds before, although without any special timing equipment.

There was quite a lot of discussion about the acceleration figures when the Z3M came out, as they seemed slower than power-to-weight would suggest.

Apparently they quoted 5.5 seconds to 100kph in order for it not to be officially quicker than the M3. Ultimately most of the Mags determined that 5.0 seconds was the correct figure, making it quickest road BMW ever at the time.

The case was the same for the SLK32 AMG. They also quoted 5.5 seconds IIRC, but it's now pretty much accepted that it can crack 100kph in 4.7 seconds! Which I believe would put the SL55 AMG in a bit of trouble!

Yeah, that sounds about right, although I image the M5 would beggar the Z3M above 100mph, you can't argue with 400bhp!

The M Roadster is a bit of a performance bargain nowadays, although thankfully the "special" running costs have kept them out of the hands of Kevins thus far.

Likewise the SLK32 AMG is pretty sweet. I was dangerously close to getting one when I got my Z4. Apparently the handling is a bit ropey, but 354bhp and 450NM of torque must be pretty serious in a straight line!

Very true, its daft how quick it is at 100+ thays when the cubes would count and the M5 would pull away. On the occasion of the test we ran out of road however.

The chap with the ZMCoupe has had a GPS verified 170+ out of it... not too shabby!! Also, they respond very well to an ECU remap.
