Going to see a 318 Touring (E30) this weekend and was wondering if there are any areas I ought to focus on?

Would anyone know how much a cambelt change would cost on one of these as I think that one's due?
Thanks

Tailgate rust is fairly common. Replacments are available but I've heard that they're not as good a fit as the original.

Rear screen, sunroof, arches - usual suspects. Also check fuel tank and filler neck as they get hit with a lot of crud.

I'd say look for a six cylinder, preferably 2.5.

Anyone want a 2.5 for spares or repair?

How much "repairing" does it need?

isn't that why it needed repairing?!

Trailing arm/subframe type damage and minorish bodywork. I've tried replacing the trailing arm but it doesn't quite align, so the rear subframe may be bent. If you've got good facilities it's repairable, but trying to fix it on axle stands is a pain. She needs putting up in the air to do the job properly. A good repair man could fix it, but it's a git of a job if you only have DIY facilities.

It's got a perfect M20 2.5 engine (not even any carbon under the oil cap) a very good interior etc.

She's far too nice to waste but I haven't got the facilities to finish the job. I'm looking for £300 notes for her. If you're interested I'll go into more detail/take close up piccies.

No worries... If only I still had access to a four post lift I could do it myself

The update is that it was sheddier than a very big shed, no need to tell me about the tailgate either as the only bit that wasn't rusty was the glass!
Thanks again though.

Would a very 'proper' 95 M 518i Touring be any good to you? If so, see the classfieds!
Performance is better than what you might think (not great, but neither is a 318i E30 Touring...we had one of those prior)

Old Man would like it to go to a good home....its been his trusty friend for nearly 8yrs
