Broken temperature gauge

Hi

I have an e39 03 530i. The digital external temperature gauge is now showing -40o, seems to be broken, could this be a fuse or something bigger?

This will be a problem with the sender unit. It is located just in from to the drivers side front wheel, under the car (looks like a small ariel)

Try un plugging and then putting it back in again - could be a dry connection.

Apparantly they are about £30 from a dealer if reseating does not work.
