Hi, I have bought an M3 2002 plate from a BMW dealership. Not wanting to sound to much of a 'girl' I just wanted to ask any fellow M3 owners if theirs makes a funny noise !! mine is a convertible and I know that it 'wobbles' a bit more than a coupe but when I put the clutch down it makes a really terrible 'clanking' noise underneath. Only does it if the road surface is rough and vibrates into the car. !!! thanks for anyones advice !

Welcome to the fold!
Firstly if you have any issues of that sort take it back to the dealer as the warranty will cover any of these types of problems.
I have found with this car that it has a very mechanical feel to it,very rough around the edges so to speak clunking gear changes from cold and booming exhaust excessive disc noise tyre noise and wheel baring type noises when you corner,Its all part of the cars charm!
I've driven four now and there all quite similar.
Enjoy your new toy!

Mines quite clunky and it’s new (a coupe), so i wouldn’t worry too much.

When i select the clutch and engage in first it does make a bit of a racket.

Welcome by the way.

Hey Jen
We own a 2002 M3 Convertible and the car had been %100 reliable over 10 months of ownership. (for what its worth)
If your not sure about anything after buying from a BMW Main Dealership ...just take the car back to the BMW Dealership and you will be looked after.
For What Its Worth..... Ours Does not make a 'Clanking' Noise even with the SMG! in fact the car has been perfect over 10 months. Granted though each owners experience is different.
If you are not sure. ... Call Your Dealer and it will be sorted under warranty.
Hope your reslove your concerns.
Let us know how you get on ?

P.S The M3 Conv Is a great Car anyway !

Hi, thanks for all the advise. It is quite clunky on gear change but the noise I hear is when I hold the clutch down, it sounds like the bottom of the car is going to fall out ! I think I just take all the advise and book it in again !!! loving the car though !! Thank you

That don't sound right, get it checked mate..

M3's do make clunky sounds when you change gear and very noticable where you sitting in the back. I got into all sorts of grief when I let the missus drive with the mother in-law upfront and I sat in the back. Really got angry as I thought she was smashing up my box (ooherr) ....... However after a serious argument and no sex for a week I found out that's how they were.... Imagine my shame.....

But should not when you hold the clutch down...welll mine never did....Get it checked as you can never be too cautious. Even if they say it is normal, then what have you lost, certainly not face as I'm sure they build the few phone calls you make in the first few days, to ask those silly questions into the price.

Hope everythings checks out alright with the new addition...

I took the car to local BMW garage today to look into the noise coming from underneath. They have told me its the linkage on the handbrake???? and didnt think there was any issue with the clutch, does this sound feasible??? I took my dad out in it and he said it sounded like loose clutch plates (?????) would this be a problem if it was?

???? Try asking the question as well on the specific BMW and M3 forums... You might get more responses...It all helps.

lol

I am my 3rd M3 and have never had a problem with the clutch clunking - the diff clunks sometimes when changing gear or reversing and juddering the throttle.

Remember that the clutch is hydrolic so the only moving part that could make that noise is the ram.

If you got it from a dealership, it will have a years warranty - just pester them until its sorted.
