Ive just had my 318is into the garage to get the starter motor replaced and the mechanic said it was an M tech engine could this be true if so what are the advantages of this engine??????

After speaking to Mr Faulks the other week, I beleive the IS is a 16v lump..

So is that good or bad slinky? Only had the car 9month its my first bmw but think its great.

Tis good..

Matt also pointed out that the engine is mounted v. far back in the engine bay giving almost front-mid engined style weight distribution, improving steering feel and handling..

I'm sure the folks over on www.bm3w.co.uk will be able to provide far more detail than I can though..

As an addendum.. have a look at www.esatclear.ie/~bpurcell/318isintro.html for lots of info on the 318is..

I've just googled 318is and got a LOT of information.. handy really as I'm considering an E30 in the not too distant future..
