Hi all,

This has probably been done to death but is my first post on the BMW section. Up until a few weeks ago i had a CBR600RR as my weekend toy, it is looking likely that after my fall it is going to be a write off. I also busted my shoulder and had an op, the earliest i will be able to drive is 6 weeks, so riding will be even longer.

I have a wife and a 16 month old daughter and this got me thinking about a convertible as a weekend toy. I will be looking at the E36 and spend a max of about £8,500. I know there is the 318, 320, 323, 325, 328 and M3 but which is best and why?

I am trying to shrink the list before driving.

Also any other suggestions welcome.

Cheers
D

It all depends on what you want from it - but for goodness sake forget about any four pots and make sure you get a straight six.

First off sorry to hear about your fall, how did it happen?

I have owned 3 x E36's

325i Coupe Sport Auto

M3 Evo Coupe SMG

M3 3.0 Vert

Your buget will get you alot of E36 at the moment.

The 323i is supposed to be the best engine of the lot - from 316-328 (not ///M Cars)

But you could get hold of an ///M vert for that money, if you do, go for the (3.0).

If it were me I would go for the 323i sport vert with FBMWSH. or perhaps the 328i sport vert - a bit more grunt.

Hope this helps a bit
