Hi chaps/chapettes, just popping in for a quicky - I saw a current 3 series the other night with what looked like a black foglight just off centre in the front bumper. At first I thought it was the camera for a HUD like an M5 but nothing cut into the dash. So, what is it?

It did look just like the fogs, about the same diameter and bulginess but looked a bit of an after-thought - it was mounted on a flat panel in amongst the slats, about 5 inches square. Probably the cruise sensor but if so why look so Halfords-esque?

Were there two of them? If so are you sure it is not the chepo inserts where foglights would be in more expensive models. I have an ES version and have these cheap looking inserts. To my eyes the worst aspect of the car. If I had realised before taking delivery I would have specced the fogs as an extra.

No, it had fogs and this thing just off centre in the lower part of the bumper level with the fogs. It was debadged but a higher model - looked a bit M3 but without the pipes and front wing grills. If I see it again I'll have a proper poke about

soon to be arrested in west Cambs...
