Red Oil indicator light

Hi can anyone help me I have just pulled away from work and in doing so I heard a loud click noise and then the red oil light came on, so being a good car owner I went and treated it to a drink of Shell ultra oil. I have put in just under a litre of oil and drove away from he garage and the light will not go off, I accelerated slightly and I have no real load on the accelerator and I don’t know if it was me but I could smell clutch burning. I have called BMW rescue out but they are going to be another 2 hours yet so I thought I would post in the mean time to see if any one could shed any light on it....? Also there is a ticking noise much louder than normal
