Just bought a 2002 330ci. It has 19" Mutec wheels. The tyres on the front look to narrow for the wheels ie the rims protrude approx 1/4" past the tyre. The rears look ok. I've searched the net for Mutec but cannot get a hit.

1. Who/what are Mutec?
2. Can anyone suggest correct tyre sizes. Currectly fitted are Front 235/35 ZR19 - Rear 265/30 ZR 19.
3. I think I read something a while back that idicated some low profile tyres have a protective "bead" to help protect the rims from curb damage. Is this true?

Cheers

Steve

i have heard of mutec before the do tuning parts and wheels for BMWs. are the wheels a dished 5 spoke?? you may need a different tyre on the front as some make tyre are designed so that the outer wall is thicker so that it protects larger wheels from curb damage.

Mat,
They are the five spoke & dished. I've done a search for Mutec on internet with no hits. Are these guys really that obscure?

hi, try mutec autograph on a search. I do remember a while bach when i was after a 330ci that i found one which had been tuned by a company with the logo "autograph" on the rear and that had mutec wheels. Maybe they are the same company... am not sure.

I have just looked through an old bmw car magazine and found a Mutec tuned 750IL but doesnt give a web address or name of origin, sorry

Mutec used to do a 4.8 or 5.0 litre V8 engine conversion for the E46.
The were featured in BMW magazine a few years ago.
I tried to find out more by Googling them, but to no avail. (Though IIRC I found a company in The States that sold/stocked their wheel range.

Eh Slippydiff,
Nice bit of research. Car is same colour as mine & they are the wheels that I've got (well almost). I've looked closely at mine & they look like two piece look alikes?? What I'm most intrested in is the width of the front tyre. Coz the rims protrude the tyre ny approx 1/4" & the rims are prone to curb damage. Currently the front tyres are 235/35ZR19. Just wondering what width tyre should really be fitted?

Cheers Steve
