I've just bought an old E30 325 touring with 110k on the clock for peanuts.

Straight away it needed;
Cam belt
Clutch
Front and rear discs and pads
Seat belt (pre-tensioner not working)
Idle control valve thingymajig

Apart from that it's good

You get what you pay for with old BM's. Mine was pampered for most of its life, but neglected for last few years with the owners ignoring all major jobs.

Check all of the above, plus rust, as they do tend to disolve.

I think the engines are generally sound, but check for the usual leaks and rattles plus mayo in the oil filler cap.

They are nice cars though and I love mine now the work has been done.

Not sure, but if I can't see a recentish receipt for the job on a car I've bought, I always do it to be safe.
