Hi All

I am a new owner of an E39 M5.

The engine is using excessive oil but that is anohter story..... 1lt per 450 miles!

Anyway i got under the car this evening to see if i could spot any leaks and i have found that the differential is leaking oil - there seems to be alot of oil down there therefore i assume it has been leaking for sometime.

Is the differential serviceable ie can any oil seals be replaced? If not any ideas on the cost for having it replaced?

There is no whining coming from the diff yet therefore I assume it has not run dry yet - does anyone know how to refill and where to refill it? Oh and what oil to refill it with?

Any help appreciated as i am beginning to feel like i have been conned!

Thanks in advance

Ashok

Firstly, congrats on your car Jon. Don't feel too bad as they are generally excellent and once yours is sorted you won't look back.

May I suggest you try posting here as well for an expert response:

For Oil, go the the local BMW dealer and pick up the right stuff, its the only place locally I am able to get it! Its about £13 / litre.
