I used a vacuum oil extractor - holds 6 pints, stick it in the dipstick pump it up and come back after a cuppa.

Inset picture shows how to reset service lights. (google)

Whenever I've done an oil change (BMW or not) I always catch the oil in a washing up bowl, no idea what the capacity of the average washing up bowl is but I'd guess at more than 6.5l and they are about £1 from your local Wilko's, or you can just put it back in the kitchen sink and hope the wife doesn't notice

I bought one of these on Elliots advice. I can confirm that they are super dooper.

Now for the difficult bit; pouring the old oil into the oil container (without spilling it)and taking it to the recycling centre for safe disposal.

Ah, good work. They don't have this crucial step in the Haynes manual!

have noticed two changes since changing the oil from magnatec to mobil 1.....first off, i used to have a quite annoying slight metallic tapping sound before the oil change which has totally gone.........and the second is that the engine now revs "much" more freely.......didnt think an oil change would alter things so much? guess im sticking to mobil 1 from now on
