Sounds like clutch to me, or some kind of adjustment needed, as it's doing it in all gears. If the sychro was broken on one gear then it would only do it on that gear.

Bad luck. No warranty, I assume?

Hmm don't know. With luck it might be a clutch adjustment - I'd take it to BMW dealer and ask them to drive it and see what they think. They shouldn't charge you for that. They might say, "Oh yeah it needs adjusting this happens all the time with these..."

Worth a try?

I wouldn't know about clutch replacements, but I'd be wary of getting anything other tha original equipment, even if an indie fits it.

we paid £700 for the first year we owned it - it was fine of course - and thought to give up the warrenty since april! aaargghhh! - do you know how much a clutch replacement may be, and if someone cheaper than a main dealer can do it?

Dotdog, I had my clutch replaced recently on my ZM Coupe and I can tell you it's expensive. The labour is about 10 hours plus parts; clutch (£250 plus VAT) and you may also need a new flywheel (£470 plus VAT). If you do need a new flywheel and are considering keeping the car for a while it maybe worth getting a competition/racing flywheel (£570 plus VAT) over the standard one, BMW now make a racing one for the MC. Also you should find a good Indy and see if they will do the labour for cash i.e. no VAT. It's not worth taking your car to a main stealer anymore as you don't have a warranty and to be honest most of the stealers haven't got a clue what they are looking at anyway when it comes to M cars.

I hope this helps although I realise it look s a bit scary cost wise.

Dotdot, there's a little rubber pipe that operates the clutch, which may have given up all hope of containing the operating pressure.

It's a quick/cheap fix to replace with a braided item and worth it as a cheap first off job, before you even think about going to the stealer for a clutch as you'll almost certainly only get 1 answer.

If you want to know more, try a search on www.zroadster.net or speak to the guys on www.Z3mcoupe.com
