Apart from the better resale,is this extended warranty a must on the m3?Mines a 53 plate and is due in two months, the car has done 33k.Normally i always renew the warranty on all my cars. Are these engines reliable?I know about the recall stuff and also the diff problems, but i'm really not sure what to do.
£1100 is a real rip off in my opinion, but then again not compared to a blown engine!I wont entertain an after market warranty so thats not an option.
Its a love hate relationship with this car but i'm really warming to it and now i'm enjoying it more than my 996,so i plan to keep for a good year.

You will hear differences of opinion on this one.

But me personnaly, I like to sleep at night and if I'm toodling along I don't want to panic at the slightest noise, knock or judder. To me it's a no brainer. Yes, £1,100 is a lot, especially compared to other manufacturers cars of the same ilk, but if you like the car and want peace of mind and avoid those potentially horrendous bills, get the warranty.

Plus (and it may be only me), I will not buy are car without one.

I would suggest taking the warranty out, the cars a reliable, very reliable as you'd expect a german performance car to be but the parts for the M3 are very expensive and BMW dealer labour charges are extorsionate (sp)so it'd be worth while just incase anything happens.

These cars can occasionally throw up an expensive surprise.

My e46 M3 (now departed) was under warranty and taken into the local dealer for a small but noticable driveline shunt issue and an occasional minor obstruction when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear

One new gearbox, prop, rear diff and a couple of bushes later the car was returned.

The M3 tech told me that this would have totalled about £ 6/7k all in had I been paying - so the warranty was a bit of a no brainer in my case.

Its a very difficult question to answer and sods law always seems to apply .... !

Certainly a latish car under warranty is likely to be more saleable and may have a higher resale value which may help recover some of the warranty costs.

Good luck

Thanks guys i tend to agree with all your comments.
I've just fitted eibach pro srings to the car which really have made a massive difference to the cars handling, its now how it should have come out from the factory imho,it does'nt really look lower -20mm front,-10mm rear with the same smooth ride on motorways but much shaper in to the corners with very little lean, simply the cheapest and best mod i've done to any car i have owned really happy with it.
Will this effect a claim if it comes to it on the engine,or gear box? What about the diff?
So in light of this mod am i ok to buy the warranty and not have to worry if i do have a problem?
Thanks again
Rob

Re. Any mods, speak to BMW and get their ok before you get the warranty. Seek the opinion of more than one garage (obviously one being your local) and if you can, get it in writing.....

There are differences with how the OEM's and warranty companies handle mods, some exclude certain areas of the cover, some will not sell a warannty (or even worse, if you have paid for one, will not pay out when you need to claim) and some (with certain mods) will not have a problem. I never moded any of my cars, esp the M3, so not 100% sure how BMW react to this, but do know you have to be careful and it's always better to be upfront and doubley sure.

As said, the worst thing in the World would be the bombshell that they won't pay out when they spot the mod's.

At the moment, on balance I think I'll renew the warranty on mine in November.

I've been researching alternatives warranty providers but I'm not convinced yet - Going to do a lot more research over the next couple of months though

Renew the warranty... simple as. For resale its a dead cert...

So far in the last 12 months under warranty on my M5:
> Brake Hoses
> Headlight Cluster
> Gearbox
> Vanos
> Aircon

...and I'm going to try to blag a clutch next time.

God knows what that lot would have cost without!!

Cheers
Rich
