I know this topic has been raised before but after brief look can't find it.

The front windows on my 535d persitantly misbehave i,e. get half way up then go back down again followed by the anti trap warning on the screen, all for know apparent reason.

Is this quirk you have to live with or is there a cure?

Mine do it too. Annoying isn't it? If I press and hold the switch it will close everytime but I invariably forget...

Have you tried the reset procedure? Sometimes, the system loses its marker and thus goes into 'safe' mode.

If you haven't and want to try it, I'll post the sequence.

'Soft' Reset

Ensure all doors are fully closed.

Automatic power window switches have two positions per direction; i.e., two for 'down' and two for 'up'. You will feel this when you fully depress the switch.

Switch ignition to 'on' position.

NOTE: it is worth checking that there is no obstruction(s) in the felt channel, which could be disrupting the travel movement of glass

Press the OPEN switch using the first switching position.

RELEASE switch.

Now CLOSE to top using the FIRST switching position. When the window reaches its closed position, keep the switch depressed on the FIRST position for 10 SECONDS. After the 10 seconds, engage SECOND 'CLOSE' position of switch WITHOUT letting go of position ONE.

Hold switch in POSITION TWO for further 10 seconds.

(In the event of anti-trapping function kicking in (whereby the window bouinces back down, or stops during travel) inch the window up by using the FIRST switching position.)

If required, this procedure can also be applied in the DOWN / OPEN poistion, but you must finish the reset sequence in UP / CLOSE.

Ensure you do not exceed the 10 second hold period(s).

This should complete the resetting sequence.

If this does not work, let me know and I will post the second resetting phase, however, it might be a case for the BMW techs to address by plugging in to car's puter.

Good luck,

Paul.

Contact your dealer there were some vehicles affected by dodgy guide seals that were too tight and some had motor faults, once they have your details they should be able to see if it is within the range.
If I recall windows dropping with no warning the system is doing its job and the seals could be too tight, if accompanied with a warning aswell then it could be a faulty motor and or coding.
