The drivers door lock doesn't open/lock from the remote fob on my 98 323 coupe. Now as the central door locking works on 'all' doors when operated manually with the key, I've been told the 'door solenoid' needs replacing. The part is around £60 from BMW, however has anyone fitted one of these before?

I understand it just plugs in behind the door card..?

Any advice on exactly how to do this, or anything to watch out for would be very helpfull.

Thank you everyone!

James

It does just literally plug in, it has one connection on it to power it, thats it.

Just make sure the pin on the mechanism arm is located in the white hole on the solenoid before you build the door back up, that pin is what locks/unlocks the mechanism, if its not located properly, the door lock on that side won't work.

Can I test the central locking before I build the door up?
Also, I'm going to make a start on this tomorrow, is it just a case of taking the door card of etc etc... Where do I start???

Thanks guys!

Yeah just try the lock system when you've connected the actuator up. Use something like a screwdriver to move the latch into the lock/shut position then try to unlock using the remote system, you should hear it click over to unlock.
