I'm sorry but I know this has been posted before, I just can't find it (wasn't relevant to me at the time)!

I now own an ipod and am sure there is an aftermarket kit for fitting it to the E39 so that the steering wheel controls keep fuctionality.

I have a 2003 540 sport with the comms pack.

If anyone van answer this or steer me to the previous posting I would be grateful.

You can get a Dension Ice Link which does exactly what you are asking about, and have it mounted either in a cradle near the dashboard, or simply on the end of a lead (like an iPod charger) where it can be mounted out of sight. For a 5 Series you need the long extension lead as the connector runs from near the CD changer in the boot to the dashboard. It does mean the CD changer won't work though once it is fitted.

You can get the kits from a little over £100 on the web, or local car hifi shops/Halfrauds also sell them and will do the fitting for you if needed.

The BMW one is £154 + VAT for the E39

Part number is 65 41 0 409 609 but I'd have to check the spec of your car to make sure its compatible (sp)
