Im picking one of the above beasts up tomorrow, and having spoken to many insurers and also spending many hours on the net have finally got a half decent quote at last, was initially looking at £1065 finally got it down to £753 with 1st alternative, my postcode being in Liverpool doesn't help and only having 4 yrs no claims, also it will be parked on my driveway, anyone recommend anyone else to try or is £753 pretty good, 9-10k miles per year some business use, 1 driver aged 40, clean licence, any advice gratefully received.
thanks in advance

Ian.

Have you tried Admiral, Elephant and Privilige?

I am a similar age with full NCB but 2 non-fault claims in the last 3 years, 15,000 miles with full business use and two drivers and pay around £450 with Privilige.

Ok, mines only a 535i but its £450 with direct line including 20,000 miles and business use.... DL was cheaper than Elephant - which is strange because DL have NEVER been competitive for me in the past.... oh, and 7 years no claims and no driving convictions / claims...

Try Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda.

My 530 is about 440 quid with 15 years NCB and no points, claims
or convictions.

Agree with Elephant or Admiral/Bell direct.

Even at 32 years old all the supermarket companies are terrible when it comes to a group 17/18 car, which my E34 540 is classed as.

DL were the best for mee too.
6year NCB, 12K per year, no ponits, car on drive. Quoted me £677 and i'm 25. Elepant and Tesco wanted over £900!

Elephant on a 528i for me (34) and the missus (30) fully comp = £396. Both clean with full NCB.

Most of my every day cars are with Elephant now.

Just turned 34 and the most I pay is for my '01 Aston DB7 Vantage Volante @ £700. Wifes' X5 4.6iS costs me £500. Modded Volvo S60 T5 (340 BHP) for work costs £650 based on 20k miles a year.

Not bad and none of the other insurers came close.

The problem with the 540i Sport in E39 form is that it is Group 19 insurance, whereas the 540i SE, 535i Sport etc etc are 18 or lower. This is why you will often find it expensive to insure compared to the others.

For example, I can insure a 530i Sport for about £1000 at 22, and even a 540i SE is merely £1200.

But move to a 540i Sport and the quote rockets to £1700.
