Petrol in 3.0D X5
Discussion
My boss has just filled the X5 with petrol, and driven it, and now it needs a new fuel pump and some other parts.
Just so us lot in the office can have a good laugh at his silliness (last few cars were all derv, so no idea where he got the petrol idea from), I was wondering what BMW charge for rectifying such a mistake

Whoopsie!
An expensive mistake to make with those then. I guess it's those fuel pumps and pipes, and all the labour then? Injectors, tank clean???
Bet BMW love people filling them up with petrol
Can't be too harsh to him though, I've done it before but it was on a car worth £500 and it cost me about £10 to put right

Yep, BMW insists on changing everything so yes its the lot including a new tank.
The dealerships do because its money but the technicians doing the job hate it. lol
Best bit is, insurance won't pay for it because its damage the owner causes and warranty doesn't cover it either.
Best one we had was a guy bought a X5 3.0D, 2 weeks later, put petrol in it, ran it, got the quote of £6,500 to repair it, he chopped it in minus the cost of the repair for a 530D Sport that day. More money than sense.

I began filling my 535d with super unleaded the other week.
I realised after 9 litres and panicked.
Having calmed down, i removed the fuse for the fuel pump, called BMW rescue and the car was taken away.
Tank emptied and rinsed out with diesel, fuel lines cleaned, new fuel filter and re-fill with diesel.
£234, which included £70-worth of diesel.
No problems since, as no petrol got into the working parts.
Stoooopid mistake though.

You did exactly the right thing, most people get about 20 yards out of the petrol station, then it dies.

Why doesn't your boss get the tank emptied, filled up with diesel and see if it runs. 99 times out of 100 they are ok. Worst case is he has to get it towed to the dealership to have everything replaced. Its usually just a rip off by the dealers.
He brimmed it, got a mile or so away and it just conked at the road side. RAC came out and it was taken to BMW.
Not a car person really and I guess he was shocked to see the cost. Still, won't do it again now... I hope
Thanks for the replies.
