Ive just fired my car up so I can move it to clean the interior after this weeks work and when I put the key in the ignition the OBC came up with Trans Prog Error

Im assuming this isnt at all a good thing, but what exactly does it entail?

At the moment I cant afford to take it anywhere and I was due for MOT and Tax next week....

Ive got a bad feeling about this one

BTW its a 1992 E32 730iSE

Was the battery low? That is a Transmission control unit fault and can be thrown up due to a voltage drop during cranking.
Charge the battery and retry it, if it persists and transmission stays in emergency running mode of third gear get the fault memory checked.

Battery is fine, electrics are fine and now strangely enough the error msg isnt coming up

Funny thing is, although that message came up, it never went into emergencey limp home mode (IE; 3rd)

Strange...
