Hello all,

I've got a E65 7 series (2003), and today the engine inspection light came on, and the car keeps on "juddering" now. In drive and in reverse. It feels like it is going to stall, but it doesn't. It's going to Sytners tomorrow to get the fault diagnosed, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what it could be?

Had a similar problem on my M3 - it turned out that 3 (of 6) of the coils had failed.

These cars have all sorts of sensors and it could be anyone of them that is causing your symptoms.

BMW diagnostics should reveal all.

Had that problem on both an Elise and an E39, both times turned out to be a failed crank / cam angle sensor (can't remember which is which on those engines).

But like the previous poster said, there's plenty of other sensors to fail too, none of which are too expensive to fix. Word of warning though, the first (independent) garage I took the E39 to was insistent that the ECU had failed (=£££, and it took the local main dealer to spot the faulty sensor (=£.

Good luck,

Thanks for the replies. It was a faulty coil! Once changed, the car was still doing it slightly, and they found that another one needed changing. At that point, they recommended changing all 8, so thats what they did. After £400, the car was back to normal and running smoothly.

Thanks chaps!
