I saw a couple of original 1971 CSLs at a rally recently and neither had the famous "Bat Wing" rear spoiler.

Weren't these standard on all CSLs of the period?

The aerodynamics package was homologated in 1973, a year or so after the CSL was introduced, at the height of the CSL/RS Capri battles in touring car racing.

It was said to be worth 15 seconds a lap at the Nurburgring.
