Hi All,

I've just purchased a rather nice E36 M3 imola individual GT2 which is coming up for a inspection 2 in the near future (one green light remaining). Just wanted to check with you guys to see if anyone could recommend an Independant in the Peterborough area?

Thanks in advance for your help
Cheers
Paul

Benstens in St. Ives did a good job on mine, and they'll give you a courtesy car.

Cheers for the responses guys - much appreciated.

I've got no problems with going a way to get someone good to look at the car - I could do MK in about an hour.

How long does an inspection 2 take to do - i.e can I wait for it or should I expect to leave the car and come back? Also what should I be expecting to pay - BM want £855!!

Christ, i thought my local BMW dealership were expensive at £800 of your well earned notes!.

Inspection 2 will take the day im afraid, probably and some. Most of the cost from BMW is labour. My local specialist (Highams Park Motor Co. 0208-523-3443) was almost half the price of the dealership one, but, i ended up spending the thick end of £3,000 as i needed a new SMG unit, so as you can imagine i wasn't really worried too much about the cost of the service.

Hope this is of any help.

M3John.

Cheers guys.

I've mailed Dave at Thorney Motorsport so we'll see what we can sort out! Hopefully a bit less then 3k at any rate M3John (although I haven't got SMG!!), bet that was a bit of a shock tho!
Nice car by the way

I'm a bit nervous as this will be the first service I've had since I bought the car but as far as I can see everything works as it should do and it goes like stink!! Fingers crossed for no hidden suprises

Cheers mate , i always maintain that its a clean one when talking to people but its nice to hear it when sombody else appreciate's it also.

I knew that the SMG unit was slowly on it's way out as it was ever so gently letting a little bit of oil go through one of the solenoid's towards the end of last year and i was saying to myself "i'll keep an eye on that" but during the really cold spell that we had during November i came out one day and it looked like somebody had taken a pee by the side of my car...popped the bonnett and sure enough, the thing had no oil in it!

But, BMW being themselves, it was only avaiable on an exchange basis.... which made me as they dont even make the poxy thing, they just send the old one away, have it re-sealed then sell it to somebody else . The unit alone came to best part of £1,800.

I'm glad its done now though, yes it was a lot of money but i truly love the car. It's managed to show a clean pair of heals to plenty of stuff that on paper shoud be quicker. People still look at it everywhere i go and for as long as i'm earning enough mony to keep it, i'm happy to say that i'll never sell it.

John.
