I have a car in my garage an 03 plate 318ci, basically the idle goes up and down intermittantly, from about 850-1800 rpm.
It does seem to be triggered by the air con, if you switch the air-con off the revs seem pulsate up and down, i know on some german cars i can set this with my diagnostic machine but it is not showing any faults.
Any help much appreciated.

Fuel Pressure Regulator misbehaving ?

My TIS disc refers to this as a first check for all rough/erratic/surging idle issues on the 3 series.

Good luck

M43 engines break lots, if its rough running also check the Crankcase breather valve and the hose that goes to it as that often splits.

We do lots of these, so much so that we keep a fair few in stock now.

Crankcase breather (or Vent valve as its referred to on EPC) part number is 11 15 7 501 567

The hose for it 11 15 1 743 386
