Advice please

Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

This morning I noticed that my revs were hanging occasionally and when I put my clutch in, they rose! It's not all the time but I did notice it today. Any ideas on what it might be please?

Sounds like the engines getting too much air in.
Although it's dangerous to diagnose over the net.
It could possibly be running with an air leak or there could be a problem with the idle speed control valve.
It's possible the port thorttles are out of adjustment, however this would probably manifest itself as an uneven idle.

I had this on my Lotus, which was a sticky throttle body but don't know if the BMW setup is remotely similar -best to get it checked ou to be sure.
