Hi

I'm looking to change my A6 Estate, considering a 3 year old 530 Sport, V70 T5 or another A6.

I like big, reasonably fast cars, but I frequently carry 2 mountain bikes. With the A6 I can get them both in the boot with the back seats up which is great. Oviously wheels and seats have to be removed but thats not a problem and everything fits neatly in the boot.

So....could anyone give me the dimensions of the boot at floor level, depth and width (or can anyone confirm that they carry bikes in the Touring in the manner I descibed?).

Any other thoughts on the cars I mentioned? I am willing to sacrifice the Quattro of the Audi for the better drive and economy of the 530 Sport, any other things I should consider?

Does anyone have a Touring with them at the moment that they could measure for me please?

The A6 is 106cm deep by 116cm wide (measured on the floor of the boot).

Sorry to be a pain about it but I really hate putting the seats down to carry bikes, and don't like them on the roof/back. I like to keep the backs seats for the clean clothes and bags.

As soon as I get hold of a test drive one I'll try it myself but I'd love to know if its likely.

I seem to have developed a good knack for packing them in - the A6 isn't exactly a truck either but 2 large bikes will go....

A test drive is being arranged for me at the moment by a garage in Sheffield.

Thanks a lot

I am sure an A6 is smaller than a BMW 5 series

Thanks - someone on another forum has kindly measured it for me; the A6 boot is bigger, the bikes will be a tight fit.

Any other thoughts on the 530i Sport still appreciated.

Had an E39 530d touring and currently have a V70. Volvo is far bigger but more importantly has a much better 'flat' opening & floorspace.

Interesting. Have you got a T5 V70? How would you compare it to the 530 as a driving proposition?

No, its a D5.

Handling then the Volvo is not a patch, but as a day to day proposition I much prefer the Volvo. Far more comfotable and IMO as well, if not better built. D5 engine is lovely and far more economical that 530d which I found was dire on fuel (not much better than my wife's M3 evo!). That said, volvo is manual and BM was an auto.

Not the last word in "fun" by any stretch but a great mile muncher, though I would want something interesting too! (Currently an S2000!)

Mate,

I have the 2.7 Allroad and love it. Spacious, fast, refined...I also mtb/ surf, etc and find it excellent. Also comes in a Diesel??

I would be confident it's bigger in legroom and boot space over the 5 series ones. Nicer too, as it's still quite a fresh look. Plus you can alter ride height, etc.

Any questions, let me know?
