Hi all,

Looking for an M3 SMG, fully loaded with all the toys. MUST have Harman, Nav/TV, 19" alloys and mileage less than 35k really. Full BMW history including the run in service. Obviously I have seen what is for sale on pistonheads, autotrader, exchange and mart eBay (God forbid)...so just putting the feelers out on here as well. Been hunting for the "right" car for weeks!!

New to this site so please go easy on me if I have posted this in the worng place!

Cheers (nice site by the way pistonheads!!)

How much you are willing to pay will really decide on how nice the car is.Ive just bought one on a 53 plate from a dealer.I spent months looking for the right car mostly at bca auctions and all i found was scrap.
There are bucket loads of cars out there but finding a good one isnt easy so be prepared to travel and part with at least 24k for a nice 3 year old one with the spec your after.

Cheers for the reply. Quite prepared to pay well over 24k for the right car. Hadn't considered auctions to be honest. I too have driven hundreds of miles trying to find a good car, but its' hard work finding something with all the ticks in the right boxes as you know. The search continues.....

Hi Stuart,

I recently bough mine (03 plate, estoril, 19's, NAV) from North Oxford BMW. It was running slightly higher mileage, 45K, but the brucy bonus was it had to have its' inspection II, and new disks+pads to get through the AUC, which means 1yr warranty etc...

I *really* wanted one in estoril, so was happy to pay a little extra for mine- all in £27.2K (/w/ 6 months RFL). This may give you an idea of what you can get from a BMW garage if you get the right car (NO BMW seem to price really competitively).

I think that if you go for something not quite as desired as estoril, you could balance that with your mileage limit ofr 35K, and expect to find a 'normal' colour M3, with the right mileage, spec, for 27K ish from a BMW dealer.

OK, you can certainly save a few K going private too, but there are associated risks, and it seems to me most buyers do overprice their cars privately.

All this just FYI,

Hope it helps

Stu

Stuart, thanks for the details; much apprecaited. BMW seem to be charging over the top compared to other dealers, but I guess there are the benefits you mention.
I've seen a guy selling an 04 plate, silver/grey with Imola leather and every single option apart from sunroof. He wanted £34k which sounds very high for a private sale. It's only done 15,000 miles though. I was going to be cheeky and see if he would take £30k for a quick sale, but rather nervous buying privatly....
My max I guess is £28k for a low mileage car, fully loaded, but do you think its worth dipping into savings if I can get an 04 for this money privatly?
Cheers,
Stuart

Wow, 34K! CSL's are dropping into that price range now so forget about parting with that for standard ones.
I brought a standard one from BMW Stratton two months back, the right spec for me (19's, Nav, TV, Heated Seats -Important and gun metal grey. However it has 65K on it but comes with one year BMW warranty so I took a chance, also was £21K
As for the car... love it! Brilliant drive although the DSC is a little intrusive when accelerating hard.
Good luck looking, you won't regret it.
Rob.
