Who would you recommend to carry out repairs and maintenance on E39 M5 in Leeds area?
Wary of main dealer after fuel pump gave up the ghost, easy diagnosis by RAC, but main dealer firstly gave me spiel about 'one hour diagnostics' test to confirm it was .... a knackered fuel pump! (at 100 quid an hour)
Are there any great independents out there who can look after the older cars which are beyond warranty?

Hmm, an independent working on an M5? That's, errr, brave! Or perhaps I've just been brainwashed by all the BMW PR boys telling me how good their services lads are.

But then again, from what I've heard the independents can't be any worse than some of the West Yorkshire main stealers, apparently they don't know which end of the spanner to hold...

I'm not sure, but wouldn't that make it a non-main dealer service history vehicle, and thus damage it's residual value?

I think that once a car becomes a bit of a 'veteran' such as a 6 or 7 year old M5, a reputable independent is a natural choice for maintaining a vehicle which is worth somewhere in the teens.
Also, you can form a closer relationship with an independent than a 'have a nice day' official centre.

This is strange....Flamespitter, Im sure I posted a reply with the number of BMW Care then you posted a reply saying that you had been and were happy with their service...is this correct?

Where have those bloody posts gone?

aliens must have abducted those posts

Andrew D:

BMW Care in Pudsey is one of the only BMW Independants that can carry out MOT or service work which will not adversely effect your BMW warranty...they're actually approved by BMW as a service centre I belive

I was wondering about resale value rather than warranty, I don't know whether a car is suitable for resale by the dealer as an "approved used car" if it's not got full main stealer history.

But if BMW Care can service the car and not affect the warranty then I'd certainly assume that it won't affect the resale value, after all warranty is the number one thing dealers try to slither out of! (or should that be "out of which dealers try to slither"?)

Ahhh I se what you're thiking

Yeah on one hand; if it was a BMW independant that wasnt actually linked with BMW itself and was mostly looking after old motors like mine (1992) then it probably would effect the resale value as it isnt a genuine main dealer, but I think with BMW Care being main dealer approved to carry out any service and warranty work, the resale value shouldnt decrease much, if any!

Ive been to BMW care a few times and they seem like a decent bunch of chaps and I felt out of place in an old BMW as they had some seriously new and flashy motors in for servicing
