330i Sport on LPG-anyone done it?
Discussion
I've been seriuosly looking into buying and converting a 330i Sport.
The pros are very strong and for me outweigh the cons:
Pros:
1.Cheaper running cost-only 9p a litre assuming 21 mpg and 40p/litre pump price. To compare, 320d will cost 10p a mile assuming 40mpg and 100p/liter pump price.
(the mpg figure is lower to take into account that mpg drops when using lpg as more lpg is required to drive a mile than normal petrol)
2.I get to drive a 330 petrol and enjoy the lovely sound and rev range!
3.A 330i sport is cheaper to buy and convert (£2500 for conversion) than to buy a similair spec 320d. The 330d is is far more expensive than both, especially in Sport guise
4. Resale value should be better or easier to sell on..if not I can remove the kit and sell as normal petrol car.
Cons:
1.Reduced boot space: no big issue for me
2.Lower range and less availabilty of LPG-I live in London and there are 6 LPg stations within 2 miles of me.
As is obvious from above I am convinced on the merits of LPG. I am just wondering if anyone out there has converted a 330. I have seen many V8 and a V12 7+5 series with it but not any 330s.

Cheers. I'll give him a call. Pity its an auto coupe as I really want manual and 4 doors...
I currently have a 525d tourer and fancey the idea of a 330 sport tourer, and converting that to LPG.
I currently get 40 mpg out of the 5 so working on your figures, and hopefully you may get slightly more that 21 mpg I would be slighly better off, and get to drive a 3.0 beast.
My other car is a 2000 996 carrera 4, so I really miss the power when I am in the 525d, but as I commute 88 miles a day I carn't drive it every day so spend 2+hrs a day driving my beemer.
I had a 320d before my 5 and absolutly loved it.
The E46 is such a nice care and personally carn't stand the new 3
I have always loved BMW's but now they have lost the plot in the styling dept
If I was to chop the porsche in due to finances, kids etc (; thenI would probably go for a M3.
I would be very interested to know how you get on and wish you good luck with it.
I will probably go for it too soon.
I have a mate at work who's best mate acutally does LPG conversions, he has a 735 lpg and has done all kinds of cars including show cars, so I can put you in touch with him if you like.
As a matter of interest when did the 330 come out 2000 ish I think, and are they all 231 bhp or is that the 03 on ones ?

Hi Porsche3911,
I have done 1000 miles so far with the car and have averaged 27mpg on petrol so will hopefully only drop to to about 22-23mpg on lpg. However as it is only first week with the car and it has been raining alot I have been driving more gently than normal...
I would be interested to talk to anyone who has converted BMW's. What is the name of your mates business. Does he have a website?
