Dude next to me has been having trouble with his new to him car. He has been having problems changing gears, when the car is cold it changes ok but then after it has warmed up the gears are a pig to sellect. And when it does sellect it jumps forward suddenly, and the clutch is very low. He has changed the clutch, and has bought two slave cylinders and a new pivit bearing. He is now taking of the gear box. I said that i will run the question past you guys on the BMW section to see if anyone else has expereanced this. What else can he look for please?

Hi,

Could be that the flexable pipe to the slave cylinder is softening when hot, when the clutch is pressed the fluid just expands the pipe rather than entering the slave cylinder. I seem to remember this being a problem on the early cars.

Soft clutch hose is a common one as said previous, go for a braided item it will make the world of difference.

Yea thanks for ya replys. But he has changed the rubber ones for braided hose. Also he has bought two new slave cylinders and a new mster cylinder. Also he has taken out the gear box and changed the pivit and arm and the whole clutch. The whole thing is a gig mystery. When the car gets warm the clutch pedal is very very low and at times causing the box to grind. Its been bleed in various ways but still it does it.
