Replacing Seat - Airbag Question
Discussion
Evening guys,
I am in the middle of replacing my seats from Standard to M Sport Seats and was hoping someone can help me out.
What is this? Is this something to do with the air bags? The new seats don't have it so it looks like I need to transfer it. My question is do I need to take any precautions? Simple bolt off bolt on?
This is the new seat, hence no airbag bit.

Hi there,
the device shown in the pic is the seat belt tensioner - be really careful, the device contains an explosive charge that actuates the tensioner. The tensioner works in conjunction with the active safety system of the vehicle, so if your car doesnt support the system then I wouldn't transfer it... Whatever you do, be careful, these things are quite powerful and can do some damage and can even kill.

Rather late to answer I am sure, but be careful how the thing is wired up too. Chances are it will cause a fault on the whole SRS system (airbags, pre-tensioners etc). Once its triggered as a fault it can only be turned off by a dealer or specialist reset device. A standard service indicator tool wont work and the "error" will remain until its reset. There are lots of discussions about airbags etc working if there has been an error - some say that it still works and some say it doesnt.... be warned....
Ok.... basically if my passenger takes their seat belt off the dash doesn't warn you after a minute or so, where as my seat does after 20 secs, therefore I assume it isn't working. Should I wait longer?
So does that mean the seat isn't detecting someone sitting on it and therefore may not deploy the air bags?
Remember these seats were left hand drive, does only one seat have a pressure mat?
When in the left hand drive car the drivers seats probably didn't have a pressure sensor cause it would assume if the car is moving there is a driver, but now this seat is the passenger.... how will the computer deal with this?
Does that make sense at all??
