Monkey from t'north, absolutely but simian du spanner? Not really!

However, having heard the stories, I do religiously check the dipstick at least once a fortnight and you know what?

This thing seems to use NO oil!

I keep checking, rechecking, on the level with the engine warmed and not so warm - it makes no difference.

Is this just pure luck or do they all 'seize up' in this good way?

From what I understand from the research I have done - some dont use oil at all. The early ones had a bit of a thirst and an increse in this meant the potential of big bills. But I understand a small modification around 2000/2001 improved oil flow and stopped the higher rate of consumption. Some M5 owners are reporting no use....

Or it could be that you just arent driving it hard enough

Then again, not....

I don't see how improving oil flow would reduce consumption. More likely they use different rings/bore honing/dyno run-in procedure surely?
