Well.......
I'm no great expert but I think the one to go for is the tds, the td doesn't have as much power. But in saying that, it is still a fine engine, if you are referring to the tds, then it's a marvellous engine....
The suspension joints on the E39 are prone to wear, and that's about it. The interiors are good, but seat bases tend to wear a bit. The electrics are all pretty good but check the instrument display for pixels being lost. Check the clutch is ok, rumbly diffs are rare but can happen, as are wheel bearings......other than that that's about it.
