Comms pack on E39, quick question
Discussion
Does anyone know how I can get my phone working? I have heard that vodafone sim's work. I currently have a vodafone mobile, does anyone have any helpful hints?
Also, is my car fitted for satnav, it doesn't have the option when I twiddle the tv knobs, just wondering if I can retro fit it....
Thanks,
Mike.

Can shed a little light for you :
Phone - you should be able to slot in a SIM using a carrier into the armrest part below the handset. Once in it should work but its single band only. So little or no roaming and the signal quality wont be great. Personally, I ripped mine out and replaced it with a bluetooth Nokia kit, but personal choice. Need the carrier though and some SIMs dont work at all - O2 or Vodafone should work though GSM 800 IIRC!
Satnav - you should have a button for this but if its not there then maybe its missing or not working. Check the boot as there should be a big DVD player and box for the control of it. Check its plugged in and that you have a DVD for it - without the DVD I am not sure if you get anything. Does the OBC work? Can you access the OBC features through the screen? If so then the integration bits working, but maybe the Satnav is busted. Upgrades are limited but you can pickup the later control units of Ebay and then get the latest DVD image / disk - brings it up to the very last version from the e39 which is quite good. But replacement is hard, its all pre-wired and the TV unit is just the display. Replacing it is a £1500 job and thats just in parts alone! Its better to start from nothing and go to Satnav, changing it out is a headache - though a roaring trade on ebay means your parts should get a good deal. Personally I considered removing my headunit and replacing it with a 4:3 TV unit and then swapping out the CRT for a portable satnav unit - but all of the OBC controls are through the CRT so its pointless.... I have DSP too which confuses everything too - all speakers are DVC wired and requires a full-rewire to replace!!! Has yours got DSP?
