I'm thinking of buying a E39 around the 5-7k mark, which is on the borderline of the facelift model (but smaller engines)

what exactly were the faceligh upgrades and how much would it cost to bring an older model up to facelift spec?

also, i am torn between the sport and SE models as the sport tends to look a lot nicer but its something i can't quite put my finger on - are they lowered at all?

Would you go for a newer lower engine model or an older bigger engine that looks a little bit more dated (currently looking for a 535d)?

cheers

Ive got a 540 sport, has the nice M5 type bumpers front and rear which makes it look miles better. Not sure if the big bumpers were an option on the sport pack or part of it.

(Much better looking than the new bangle designed poo in my opinion)

Is it just the bumpers or are sideskirts part of the sport kit?

They are actually the sills, solid metal - not plastic overriders.

Here a 2000 530 sport.

I agree, the E39 is the best looking 5 series yet. The E60 front is OK but the back.....
As for which engine in the E39, the 540 V8 or the 530 6 would be my aim.

Thanks for the replies.

So exactly what parts would be needed to upgrade an older model to the facelift model - both inside & out?

Are the sills (sideskirts) the same on both the SE & sport models.

cheers
