Hello,

First time I've ventured this far down the forums list...

So these questions might raise laughs, horrors or simple head banging. Here goes:

My Father in law has a X5, had it since new and is now offering it to us for a rather too tempting price...it's a 3.0 diesel and has covered very few miles. Trouble is, I was with him when he specced it and kept on saying bigger wheels, bigger wheels...running boards (side steps?) running boards, but no..he didn't order them.

If I buy it...I will....I would like to change these things, so my questions are:

1. Would the 20" 4.8iS alloys fit on this model...simple swop over?
2. Can I retro fit running boards...or are they called side steps?

Thanks all.

Yes the 4.6 and 4.8 wheels go straight on, they are not cheap though, running boards require new arch trim as well i think as they are integrated (They are for sure on the 4.8is).. Your local stealer will price this up for you

Running boards just get in the way and make the backs of your trousers dirty!! They are too narrow to stand on properly( assuming you have big feet)and too wide to avoid when getting out. I wouldn't bother.

Thanks for the replies...hadn't crossed my mind about the running boards not doing their job properly.
